Medically reviewed and approved by Dr Reina Punj, MBBS, PG Diploma in Endocrinology (UK), Lead Physician. Prices checked October 2026. Approved on 24 October 2026.
Key takeaways
- Mounjaro (tirzepatide) costs about ₹13,125 a month at the 2.5 mg starting dose and up to ₹25,781 at 12.5 to 15 mg. There is no generic tirzepatide in India.
- Wegovy (semaglutide) costs about ₹5,660 a month to start and ₹16,400 a month at the 2.4 mg maintenance dose.
- Generic semaglutide has been sold in India since 21 March 2026, at roughly ₹1,500 to ₹3,500 a month at MRP (Semasize, for example), but not every generic is approved for weight loss.
- The medicine is only part of the cost. Safe treatment also needs doctor visits, blood tests and follow-ups.

Your doctor may keep you on a lower dose if it is working, which lowers the cost. On top of the medicine, budget for consultations, starting blood tests and nutrition support. Lean Life programmes run for 3, 6, 9 or 12 months, and longer programmes cost less per month. An advisor will explain pricing on a free call.

Ways to keep costs down
- Ask about an approved generic semaglutide, which can cost a fraction of the branded pens.
- For Mounjaro 2.5 mg and 5 mg, single-dose vials let you buy a few weeks at a time, at about the same cost per dose as the pen.
- Stay on the lowest dose that works for you; higher isn't always needed.
- Don't buy from unlicensed sellers: fake pens are cheaper because they don't work, or are unsafe.
- Health insurance rarely covers these medicines for weight loss, but some policies cover related tests and consultations.
Which one gives more weight loss?
In the large trials, people on tirzepatide 15 mg lost an average of 20.9% of body weight over 72 weeks (SURMOUNT-1), and people on semaglutide 2.4 mg about 15% over 68 weeks (STEP 1), both with diet and activity changes. In SURMOUNT-5, the head-to-head trial, people lost about 20% on tirzepatide and about 14% on semaglutide over 72 weeks. Which suits you depends on your health, budget and how you tolerate it. Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest weight loss injection in India?
Generic semaglutide: roughly ₹1,500 to ₹3,500 a month at MRP, depending on brand and dose. Check with your doctor that the brand is approved for weight management.
Is there a generic Mounjaro in India?
No. Tirzepatide is only sold as Eli Lilly's Mounjaro.
Does insurance cover weight loss injections?
Usually not for weight loss alone. Check your policy.
Why see a doctor if I can buy the pen at a pharmacy?
Dose step-ups, side effects, muscle loss and what happens after stopping all need a doctor's oversight. That keeps weight loss safe and lasting.
