Key points

  • Every meal pairs protein with vegetables and a modest portion of grains.
  • Vegetarian plan with egg and non-veg swaps for each day.
  • Most adults lose weight on about 1,200 to 1,900 kcal a day, depending on size and activity.
  • On GLP-1 treatment, eat smaller, protein-first meals.

How this plan works

This is a simple, balanced week of everyday Indian food for adults who want to lose weight steadily. Each meal pairs a protein food (dal, paneer, curd, eggs, chicken or fish) with vegetables and a modest portion of grains. Most adults losing weight do well on about 1,200 to 1,600 kcal a day for women and 1,500 to 1,900 kcal for men, but your needs depend on your size, age and activity; a dietitian can set yours.

Grocery list for the week

GroupWhat to buy
ProteinMoong, masoor and chana dal; rajma; chole; paneer; tofu; soya chunks; curd; eggs; chicken or fish
GrainsWhole-wheat atta, jowar or bajra atta, ragi, oats, brown rice, poha
VegetablesSpinach, methi, lauki, tinda, bhindi, beans, cabbage, cauliflower, tomatoes, cucumber, onions

SnacksRoasted chana, makhana, peanuts, sprouts

Tips that make it work

  • Eat the protein and vegetables first, then the roti or rice.
  • Cook with less oil: measure it, rather than pouring.
  • Plan for festivals and eating out rather than skipping meals before them.
  • Walk for 10 to 15 minutes after main meals.
  • Sleep 7 to 8 hours; poor sleep drives hunger.

On Mounjaro or semaglutide?

GLP-1 medicines shrink your appetite, so smaller, protein-first meals every 3 to 4 hours often work better than three large ones. See our vegetarian and non-vegetarian 7-day plans made for GLP-1 treatment, and check your protein target.

Who should check with a doctor first

  • People with diabetes, especially on insulin or sulfonylureas, as blood sugar can drop.
  • Anyone with kidney disease, as protein and potassium needs differ.
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women.
  • Anyone with a history of disordered eating.

Questions

What is the best 7-day diet plan for weight loss in India?

One built on everyday food you'll keep eating: dal, vegetables, curd, paneer or eggs, and moderate portions of roti or rice. Crash diets rarely last.

How much weight can I lose in 7 days?

Usually 0.5 to 1 kg of fat in a week on a sensible plan. Faster early drops are mostly water.

Can I eat rice on a weight loss diet?

Yes, in a small bowl, with plenty of dal and vegetables.

Is this plan suitable for diabetes?

It's a balanced plan, but if you take diabetes medicines, ask your doctor first, as your doses may need adjusting.
